Waterloo Gardens purchased by developer, future of site unknown
The Philadelphia Business Journal reports that the famed Waterloo Gardens property, located at 136 Lancaster Ave. in Devon, PA., was purchased by developer Eli Kahn for $7 million and will be developed. Opening in 1942, the Waterloo Gardens was a popular Main Line attraction with beautiful gardens and nurseries. The property was sold by the LeBoutillier family who operated the facility since its opening. After filing for bankruptcy, the Waterloo Gardens relocated to its Malvern location. The property consists of six acres, which has allowed Kahn to brainstorm several different scenarios for a future project. Originally, Kahn proposed a multi-family project with attached retail space but nothing has been confirmed yet. By Summer 2015, Kahn will have plans ready to present to the township and neighborhood associations. Kahn’s development company has specialized in multi-family projects throughout southeastern Pennsylvania and the Main Line area since 1994.
